Tonight, the road to WrestleMania 40 officially begins at the 2024 Royal Rumble. WWE's highly anticipated event is here with must-see matches featuring some of the biggest names in wrestling. Two championship titles are up for grabs as sixty superstars (30 men and 30 women) enter the ring.
The winner of the men's and women's matches earn a one-way ticket to WrestleMania and a world title match of their choosing. Roman Reigns will defend his undisputed WWE universal championship against Randy Orton, AJ Styles, and LA Knight in a fatal four-way match. After capturing the WWE United States Championship at Crown Jewel 2023, Logan Paul will now face top contender tournament winner Kevin Owens.

The Road to WrestleMania 40 kicks off on Saturday at the 2024 Royal Rumble. One male and one female superstar will punch their tickets to the year's biggest event by winning their respective 30-superstar matches.
The men's Rumble is rich with storylines. Cody Rhodes is determined to finish his story by avenging his WrestleMania 39 loss to Roman Reigns. CM Punk shockingly returned to WWE last year to complete a long-denied dream of headlining WrestleMania. Intercontinental champion Gunther had a record-setting run at last year's Rumble and recently called out world heavyweight champ Seth Rollins. Drew McIntyre is on fire and could disrupt things. Most recently, Paul Heyman motivated Jimmy Uso to play spoiler.
There aren't as many intertwining plots in the women's Rumble but that means anyone can step up and shock the world. Bayley is a strong candidate considering the success of her Damage CTRL cohorts. Becky Lynch is always a reliable WrestleMania headliner. Nia Jax has been unexpectedly effective since returning to the company as a surprise entrant last year. Speaking of surprise entrants, maybe an unannounced superstar will steal the whole thing.
Two title matches complete the four-card event. Undisputed WWE universal champion Roman Reigns has a high statistical probability of losing his title in a fatal four-way match against Randy Orton, LA Knight and AJ Styles. Finally, Logan Paul makes the first defense of his United States title against former three-time U.S. champion Kevin Owens.
St. Petersburg's Tropicana Field looks like the perfect launchpad for AEW lynchpin Jade Cargill, who's made a smattering of low-key appearances since signing to WWE. She's being tipped by some as a potential winner, which would be a first for a Royal Rumble debutant, and there are also rumors surrounding Sasha Banks and Naomi.
Seth Rollins is one wrestler who definitely won't be involved, having recently suffered an MCL and meniscus tear, and the show is also likely to have come too soon for Raquel Rodriguez, who has been laid low by mast cell activation syndrome.
The award for each winner will be a championship match at WrestleMania, though those aren't the only prizes up for grabs on Saturday. Roman Reigns has laid his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship belt on the line in a fatal fourway against Randy Orton, AJ Styles and LA Knight, while Logan Paul and Kevin Owens will duke it out for the WWE United States Championship.

The Triple H era has been a blast. The main event scene is thriving, the matches are fresh, the undercard and tag team divisions have been revitalized, and you never quite know what’s going to happen next. We’re officially on the Road to WrestleMania as we prepare for the 2024 Royal Rumble. Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns II and CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins seemed to be the plan for WrestleMania 40, but that was before The Rock’s recent return to Raw, Rollins’ unexpected knee injury, and Gunther’s potentially prophetic interaction with Seth on Monday night.
Will Cody finish his story at WrestleMania 40? Will the dream matchup between The Rock and Roman be held for another big event like SummerSlam or WrestleMania 41? Nobody knows the destination, but the journey has been fun as hell.
The road to WrestleMania is officially underway with the 2024 Royal Rumble taking place Saturday. WWE’s first premium live event of the year is highlighted by the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble match, where the winner of each match will get a championship shot at WrestleMania.
Also taking place will be Roman Reigns putting his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on the line in a fatal four-way match against Randy Orton, AJ Styles and LA Knight. Also, Logan Paul defends his United States Championship for the first time.
The only way to be eliminated from the match is to be thrown over the top rope of the ring and both feet hit the floor. If only one foot hits the floor, the competitor may re-enter the ring. The match goes until there is one person remaining in the ring that hasn’t been eliminated. The winner of the match then gets a guaranteed championship match at WrestleMania.
There are two Rumble matches, one with male wrestlers and the other with female stars. The only way to win a Royal Rumble is by eliminating your opponent until you are the last one in the ring. That means tossing them over the top rope, and both their feet must touch the floor.
Cody Rhodes won the men’s 2023 Royal Rumble but lost to Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania 39. He has entered a crowded field that includes the returning CM Punk. This year, Rhodes wants to “finish the story” and be the first to win two Rumble matches in a row since “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.
While the first day of January is widely accepted as the first day of a new year, many cultures around the world have other significant dates that act as the beginning of their calendars. For example, the Chinese New Year takes place during the new moon of the first lunar month each year. The two-day Jewish celebration of Rosh Hashanah, which is Hebrew for “Head of the Year,” occurs in the late summer or early fall.
And for wrestling fans, Wrestlemania is the last major event of their “year” before starting fresh. However, despite WWE Superstars working all year to secure their spot at the Showcase of the Immortals, the annual Royal Rumble event is when they shift into the fast lane and merge onto the Road to Wrestlemania.
This year’s installment of the fan-favorite event emanates from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on January 27, 2024, and should be filled with surprises. That’s what makes the two titular 30-person over-the-top battle royals so exciting every year.
Although, one surprise happened to sneak up a few days prior to the big show. While defending his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Jinder Mahal, Seth Freakin’ Rollins suffered a Grade 2 MCL tear and a partially torn meniscus. But even though the injury is estimated to keep The Visionary out of action for three to four months, the champion vowed to walk into Wrestlemania XL in Philadelphia as the champion and walk out the same way.
Though the Royal Rumble matches are the main events of the evening, there are two massive title matches on the card this year. First, the social media megastar Logan Paul has an incredibly personal grudge that he hopes to settle with Kevin Owens.
During Paul’s first appearance at Wrestlemania in 2021 as a guest, The Prizefighter hit him with a Stunner and laid him out. Following that confrontation, The Maverick learned how to wrestle and stunned audiences by being a natural in the world of sports entertainment.
